White Meadow snaps Rainbow string at 4 in bowling
Gail Franco and Dave Lewis sparkled at Boonton Lanes as the duo ignited White Meadow Lake to a first place finish in the team standings of the 2000 Hub Lakes League Bowling Championships. Franco posted the high game for women when she knocked over 192 pins in the opening. A 128 handicap bowler, Franco finished with a gross series of 488 and a net series of 659. Lewis sports a 197 average but was on target as he recorded scores of 215-236-222 to finish with a 673 series.

White Meadow snaps Rainbow streak after 4 years

Rainbow Lakes string of team titles was snapped after four years of success when White Meadow Lake claimed the championship in the Hub Lakes Sports League Bowling Championships contested at Boonton Lanes. Rainbow Lakes, which won 7 of the 10 team crowns awarded during the decade of the 1990s, finished in second place while Lake Parsippany occupied eighth place.
Gail Franco and Dave Lewis sparkled for White Meadow Lake. Franco posted the high game for women when she knocked over 192 pins in the opening game. A 128 handicap bowler, Franco finished with a gross series of 488 and a net series of 659. Lewis sports a 197 average but was on target as he recorded scores of 215-236-222 to finish with a 673 series.
Other strong efforts for White Meadow were posted by Steve Baird (190-255-170-615), Tom Cuskie (160-212-227-599) and Jerry DeGioia (206-187-180-573). Maureen Medina, who sports a 138 regular season average, posted games of 159-176-159 to finish with a 494 series that was 27 pins above her average. Bob Welgos finished with a 521 on games of 180-180-161 with his wife Joyce firing a 409 on games of 119-125-165. Joe Malko rolled a 408 on games of 153-145-110 and his spouse Phyllis had a 349 on games of 130-109-110.
Ken Vanderhoof sparked the Rainbow Lakes contingent of 10 keglers when he put together a 615 series on games of 192-190-233. Pershing Canfield, who rolled the high game of 278 in 1998, recorded scores of 166-217-235 for a three-game pin count of 618. Walt Barna was consistent in the one-day competition, turning in games of 194-184-185 for a 563 series while George Appel registered a 540 series on games of 172-190-178.
Bob Freeman (170-181-165-516), Rudy Luhrs (132-166-201-499), Lisa Vanderhoof (185-131-166-482), Barbara Olson (151-148-120-419), Judy Freeman (156-136-117-409) and Camille Richardson (114-111-139-364) completed the Rainbow Lakes team effort.
Lake Telemark's Tom Dobbins turned in the high game of the competition when he uncorked a 265 effort sandwiched between games of 196 and 223. Dobbins finished with a 664 series that was 121 pins above his 181 season average.
Cedar Lakes did not enter a team because of its 75th Anniversary celebration.
