Indian Lake claimed its third straight title and second outright at the 2000 Hub Lakes Sports League Diving Championships contested at Mountain Lakes on a cool, cloudy Saturday morning, July 29. Lake Hiawatha, which shared the 1998 title with Indian Lake after winning in 1997, finished second with Mountain Lakes in third place. At the Open Preliminary Divings Championships on Thursday that determined which divers would represent their teams in the finals, Mountain Lakes placed first in the team standings followed by Lake Hiawatha and Indian Lake.

Indian Lake's team effort was sparked by gold medalists Robbie Elko, Eric O'Leary, Samantha Ponte, Samantha Shay and Evan Trisler.

Kathleen Greslik of Lake Hiawatha, who finished second in 1998, turned in the highest point total awarded by the panel of five judges when she accumulated a score of 207.40 in winning the women's 18 & Older age division. Shay, who was third last year after occupying the runnerup slot in the girls 15 to 17 year old age division in 1998, posted the second highest score of 160.45 in claiming the gold medal while Whitney Stern, who won her sixth straight Hub Lakes Sports League title, was awarded a score of 125.40 in placing first among the 11 & 12 year old girls competition.

Bischer, Trisler dive Indian to first place By Dennis Wilson The Citizen of Morris County In diving competition limited to the 12 & under age groups on Thursday at Lake Hiawatha, Indian Lake finished first in the team standings as Stephanie Bischer and Ryan Trisler turned in gold medal efforts. All divers were required to do one somersault dive, one twist dive, and one optional dive as Mountain Lakes finished in the runnerup slot followed by the hosts from Lake Hiawatha. Bischer captured first place in the 9 & 10 year old girls bracket, posting a score of 57.90 points. In the boys 8 & under competition, it was a 1-2-3 finish by the Trislers of Indian Lake as Ryan turned in the winning score of 39.40 points followed by Evan with 36.20 and Sean who posted a totoal of 31.90 points. Open Meet - July 6, 2000 at Indian Lake

Mountain Lakes dives to opening day victory By Dennis Wilson The Citizen of Morris County Mountain Lakes turned gold medal performances from a quartet of divers into a first place team effort to open the 2000 Hub Lakes Diving League competition on Thursday at Indian Lake. In the boys 9 & 10 year old competition, Mountain Lakes piled up the team points as John Plaisted won the event with a score of 45.75 points with teammates Casey Bush and David Mintz placing 2-3. Brook Ficara captured first place among the highly competitive 9 & 10 year old girls with a score of 65.65 points. Among the 11 & 12 year old girls, the Lakers Molly Bernstein received the winning score of 73.60 points from the judges. Katie McWilliams led a 1-2-3-4 sweep by Mountain Lakes divers in the 13 & 14 year old girls competition when she racked up a score of 72.85 points. She was followed by teammates Jacqueline Cohen, Emma Mintz and Taylor Armstrong. With Monique Fallaha, Evan Hildebrandt, Birsen Mansur and Kayla Picinich turning in first place efforts, the Lake Hiawatha team finished in second place with the hosts from Indian Lake in third place. Picinich posted a score of 41.00 in finishing first in the 8 & under girls competition who were required to do any three dives off the one meter board from three different groups. Hildrebrandt received 54.55 points from the judges in winning the 11 & 12 year old boys age division. The diving requirements included a forward dive, back dive and one optional from a no-repeat group. Fallaha was outstanding, receiving the high score of 83.70 points from the judges while her teammate Sandy Castano finished second in the same 15 to 17 year old age bracket with 44.10 points. Mansur placed first in the 18 & older women's group with a score of 73.70 points.
