Indian shares women's softball title with Cedar

To play or not to play was the question of the weekend at Cedar Lake and Indian Lake after the two teams battled to a 16-16 standoff in a game called after six innings because of darkness on Friday evening.
Scoreless after one inning with the sun glaring in from right field, the championship game of the 2000 Hub Lakes Women's Softball League turned into a real donnybrook over the next five innings.
"After three days of weighing the pros and cons, we have decided to declare co-champions this season," said Lefty Medina, the chairman of the Hub Lakes women's softball program. "Several of the players went on vacation and some are off to college, so it would have been difficult to keep both teams at full strength for another game."
The championship game was all positive. Both teams rallied from what appeared to be hopeless situations and produced their runs. While neither team could celebrate the thrill of victory on the diamond, no players had to cope with the agony of defeat after making a crucial error. It was a game played by winners in both dugouts and the new millennium began with no losers. To read complete story,
