Vogel honored with Bob O'Connell Award

Tracey Vogel of Cedar Lake was selected the Bob O'Connell Award honoree. She is a member of the Lakeland Hills YMCA swimming program.
Vogel will enter the eighth grade at Valley View Middle School in Denville. She started swimming competitively five years ago with an explosive beginning, snapping a 12-year old record in the girls 8 & under 25 butterfly in 1996. In 1995, her older sister Katie was the recipient of the O'Connell Award.
Cedar finished third in the team standings as the relay teams turned in outstanding efforts. The mixed 11 & 12-year old 200 meter medley relay of Jim Bradford, Kati Eggert, Dana Palmer, Deirdre Ruth posted the winning clocking of 2:44.42 while the mixed 13 & 14 year old Mixed 200 meter medley relay foursome of (Cori Eggert, Carol Hutchinson, Karin Jackson and Keith Witty turned in the fastest time of 2:29.22. In the mixed 15 to 17 200 meter medley relay, The foursome of Brett Florance, Lauren Kontje, Kristin Meade and Kate Vogel produced the gold medal time of 2:32.55; 2.

Cedar, Indian deadlock for team title; Richards cards low honors

Cedar Lake and Indian Lake finished in a deadheat for first place in the team standings of the Hub Lakes Men's Golf Tournament contested at Farmstead while defending champion Mountain Lakes occupied third place, 16 strokes off the winning pace. This was the second time there had been a tie for the team title as Cedar and Mountain shared the 1995 championship.
Indian Lake was led by Kevin Richards who carded the low round of the competition, posting an 18-hole total of 73 while Cedar Lake was sparked by Frank Russo who was runnerup in the individual standings with a 74. Indian Lake's Mark Pennington, the defending individual champion, placed fourth with a 78. For complete results, see story.....

Eggerts set records as Cedar repeats as senior division champions

Cedar Lake five-peated as champions of the Senior Division in the 2000 Hub Lakes Sports League Track & Field Championships contested in Mountain Lakes. Cedar's winning effort was paced by record-setting efforts by Bev Eggert who posted a new meet mark of 7:48.79 when she finished first in the mile run in the women's 56 & older age bracket. Her daughter-in-law Lynn Eggert sprinted to a new record of 7.46 seconds in winning the distaff 46 to 55 year old 100 meter dash.
In the Junior Division, Indian Lake snapped a string of four straight first place finishes by Cedar Lake. Posting first place performances for Indian were Richie Coll, Chris Colucci, Emily Kohler, Jay Main, Andy Plucinsky, Lyrie Scinto, Kelly Shoneveld and Julian Wessels.
It was the senior citizens who excelled in the competition as Mountain Lakes' Rich Broome set a new meet mark of 4:44.43 in winning the 36 to 45 year old mile run while Ed Smith of Mountain Lakes claimed the first place medal in the 56 & older men's mile run with a new record of 5:26.29. In the men's 56 & older 100 meter dash, Cedar's Bill Peer, Sr. broke the tape in the new record time of 14.24 seconds.
